President Bush has said that if left unchanged, Social Security will hit insolvency in 2052, and that this constitutes a crisis. But if that's the preeminent crisis of our day, what about the equally dangerous crises of 2020, 2026 and 2037? J. Caleb Mozzocco penned a great article for Columbus (OH) Alive, showing that in 2020 China will be competing with the U.S. for global superpower status, in 2026 global warming will likely bring extinction of (among others) the lovable polar bear, and in 2037 studies show that we will have reached the peak of petroleum drilling and resources will steadily dwindle thereafter. You've got to love this: Let’s see Tim Russert demand answers from U.S. senators about the impending polar bear crisis on Meet the Press some time with the same tenacity he questioned John Kerry on Social Security recently.
