House GOP Wants to Allow Indicted Members to Remain in Leadership Roles

November 17, 9:13 AM - Submitted by mike l (unregistered):

Republicans in the House of Representatives are considering changes to the rules that would allow members who have been indicted to remain in leadership positions. The move is designed to keep Majority Leader Tom Delay in his position if he is indicted for illegal fundraising in Texas (which looks to be very likely). Eric Cantor (R-VA) justified the move based on Delay's excellent work doing exactly what is going to get him indicted: 'That's why this [proposed rule change] is going to pass, assuming it is submitted, because there is a tremendous recognition that Tom DeLay led on the issue to produce five more seats in our majority.'
